La marca internacional de moda H&M se comprometió recientemente a abastecerse de fibras celulósicas manufacturadas procedentes de fuentes sostenibles en sus productos – evitando, en particular, las fuentes de bosques primarios y en peligro de extinción y dando preferencia a los bosques certificados FSC – para finales del 2025. A través de este compromiso (en inglés), la empresa quiere contribuir a la lucha contra la degradación de los bosques y la deforestación. Las fibras podrían proceder también de textiles reciclados y residuos agrícolas.
El Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ha decidido establecer las condiciones para mantener la asociación con WOB Timber GmbH basándose en las recomendaciones de un grupo de expertos externos (panel de toma de decisiones), que fueron aprobadas por el Consejo Directivo de FSC Internacional. En junio de 2023, FSC y WOB Timber firmaron un Memorando de entendimiento (MdE), que estipula las condiciones que WOB Timber deberá cumplir en un plazo de 12 meses para mantener su asociación con FSC.
Después de varios años de debates y consultas a actores interesados locales que emprendió el FSC–Francia, un Estándar de Manejo Forestal Responsable para bosques de la Guayana Francesa fue publicado y 5 de Septiembre ha entrado en vigor.
