FSC Live: Discussion on Motions Presented in 2020

These global meetings amongst international members kicked-off motion discussions. It included the presentation of the highest-ranked motions resulting from the discussion prioritization exercise completed by the membership in early September. We showcased the survey results, followed by an introduction of the highest-ranked motions by chamber and a lively discussion with the motion proposers.

In these global discussions, members had the opportunity to discuss with the motion proposers of the two highest-ranking motions by chamber:

  • Motion 11/2020 Developing and applying social, environmental and economic indicators for the implementation of the FSC Global Strategic Plan (2021-2026), its monitoring, reporting and assessment
    Read the full motion here

  • Motion 15/2020 Sustainable Intensification
    Read the full motion here

  • Motion 28/2020 Overcome Value Chain Barriers by introducing a Simplified Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard for Small Operations
    Read the full motion here

  • Motion 04/2020 Strengthening the Network by enhancing membership engagement in regional offices
    Read the full motion here

  • Motion 18/2020 Withdrawal of motion 65_2014 and elaboration of effective forest protection measures
    Read the full motion here

We invite all members to continue the discussion and post questions or discussion points in the Motions Platform area for each motion for the session and for further discussion after the event. Having the questions posted means that the proposer can make responses there and the discussion can then continue in this area.

Recordings of the sessions, chat transcripts, and other relevant materials can be found below.

These meetings took place via Zoom.

Forest Management Evaluations Addendum – Forest Certification Reports
FSC-STD-20-007a
Please note that the content of this normative document has been streamlined into FSC-STD-20-007 Forest Management Evaluations Standard (V4-0)

Publication date: 1 February 2023

Effective date: 1 July 2023

End of transition period: 31 December 2024

The following requirements aim to ensure that the certification body decision making entity has sufficient information on which to base its decisions with respect to conformity with FSC forest stewardship standards, and to help FSC ensure that there is consistency in decision making between different certification bodies.

Reinstating the Annual Administration Fee for all types of certifications in Ukraine
Advice Note (ADV)
FSC-ADV-20-005-01
FSC had decided to waive the Annual Administration Fee (AAF) for all types of certifications in Ukraine from Q2/2022 until the end of Q4/2024, regardless of their certification status. In August 2024, FSC decided to reinstate the AAF for certifications in Ukraine starting 01 January 2025 in a phased approach. This Advice Note serves to implement this decision.
Forest Management Evaluations Addendum – Forest Certification Public Summary Reports
FSC-STD-20-007b
Please note that the content of this normative document has been streamlined into FSC-STD-20-007 Forest Management Evaluations Standard (V4-0)

Publication date: 1 February 2023

Effective date: 1 July 2023

End of transition period: 31 December 2024

The social impacts of forest management mean that forest management is a social as a well as a technical activity. It is not possible to involve all stakeholders in every forest evaluation. It is therefore essential that forest certification and its results should be open to public scrutiny. This is the only way to demonstrate to all interested or affected parties that the certification decisions are justified and acceptable. It is a basic requirement of the FSC scheme that certification bodies make a summary report of each certified forest operation publicly available.

Policy for Association
Policy (POL)

To access Policy for Association, version 2-0, click here . The Policy for Association is an expression of the values shared by individuals and organizations associated with FSC. It defines six unacceptable activities that associated individuals and organizations and their corporate group commit to avoid in both certified and non-certified operations.
