FSC Members propose motions to prioritize issues or ideas that are important for the development of FSC. A motion is a proposal to change or create an FSC Policy or Statute through member discussion, debate and voting. Submitting a motion is one of the most important actions an FSC member can take. Statutory motions are proposals to amend the FSC Statutes or Principles & Criteria while Policy motions are proposals for amendments to FSC policies or operational procedures.

Over 750 FSC Members and leaders from Indigenous Peoples’ Organizations, Trade Unions, Environmental groups, Companies, and individuals came together during the 9th FSC General Assembly (GA) in Bali Indonesia from 09-14 October 2022.
As stipulated by Policy Motion 12 of the 2014 Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) General Assembly (GA), a working group tasked with reviewing FSC conversion rules has met in Bonn, Germany, to explore new possibilities for improving the management, restoration and conservation of forest areas that are currently not certifiable.
The FSC Board of Directors has decided to hold the 8th FSC general assembly in Vancouver, Canada, from 8–13 October 2017.
