Members propose motions to prioritise issues or ideas that are important for the development of FSC. A motion is a proposal to change or create a FSC Policy or Statute through member discussion, debate and voting. Statutory motions are proposals to amend the FSC Statutes or Principles & Criteria. The FSC Board of Directors is mandated by the FSC AC statutes to manage the organization. The board of directors is the highest decision-making body in the organization after the FSC General Assembly (which is the supreme authority of the organization), being elected by the FSC membership to guide and provide oversight to the organization.

The FSC general assembly is FSC’s highest decision-making body, attracting hundreds of participants from indigenous people, environmentalists, business and others in FSC membership. The GA is traditionally held every three years, however the general assembly planned for 2020 was re-scheduled to take place in two parts at the 2021-2022 general assembly. The first part took place virtually in 2021 and the second part will take place as a hybrid event with in-person and online components.
The in-person part of the FSC general assembly is planned to take place in Bali, Indonesia. Learn more about what happens at the general assembly.

FSC is pleased to introduce the revised FSC-STD-20-007 Forest Management Evaluations Standard, version 4-0, and the revised Procedure FSC-PRO-60-010, Development of a National Forest Stewardship Standard Risk Assessment, version 2-1.
As stipulated by Policy Motion 12 of the 2014 Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) General Assembly (GA), a working group tasked with reviewing FSC conversion rules has met in Bonn, Germany, to explore new possibilities for improving the management, restoration and conservation of forest areas that are currently not certifiable.
The final version of the FSC Implementation Plan is now available online. This represents a critical step in building the structures and actions to create the changes we want to make together.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a Discussion Forum channel on the first FSC Global Strategy Dialogues and a new subsection with all the outcomes from the first round. FSC is presenting a new piece of research intended to inform the process to create a fair and feasible FSC Remedy Framework. Entitled “A study on the economics of remedy in the context of forest conversion,” this piece of work was completed by an independent consulting agency.
