The importance of forest stewardship is more apparent than ever as we face global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequities. The FSC Global Strategy 2021-2026 focuses on growing our reach by demonstrating the value and benefits of forest stewardship in combatting these challenges and achieving our 2050 vision of resilient forests sustaining life on earth.
The FSC Global Membership Meeting 2020 presented a general overview and highlights of the achievements in 2020, and general priorities and key issues for 2021.
In order to accommodate several time zones and enable the participation of our members from all regions, the session was held in the morning and repeated in the afternoon. Both sessions ran live and contained the same discussions.

The Governance Review Working Group, formed to deliver on Motion 42 (2014), has developed governance reform options based on input from members and from experts which we now wish to consult members on. This consultation will run from 10 July to 10 August 2017 through an online platform.
FSC is calling international members to apply for attending the Sustainable Intensification Solution Forum (SISF), 24 – 26 June 2019 in Bonn, Germany.
On 24 – 26 June 2019 FSC is organizing the Sustainable Intensification Solutions Forum in Bonn. In line with the attached Terms of Reference, we are looking for 5 representatives of each – social, economic & environmental - chamber.
The FSC controlled wood programme has passed two important milestones since our last update:
- Approval of the Strategy for FSC Mix Products and Controlled Wood.
- Approval of 70% of all planned FSC risk assessments.
The revised FSC Chain of Custody standards (FSC-STD-40-004 and FSC-STD-20-011) now include auditable social compliance requirements.
As stipulated by Policy Motion 12 of the 2014 Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) General Assembly (GA), a working group tasked with reviewing FSC conversion rules has met in Bonn, Germany, to explore new possibilities for improving the management, restoration and conservation of forest areas that are currently not certifiable.
The final version of the FSC Implementation Plan is now available online. This represents a critical step in building the structures and actions to create the changes we want to make together.
We are pleased to announce the launch of a Discussion Forum channel on the first FSC Global Strategy Dialogues and a new subsection with all the outcomes from the first round. Additionally, you can already register for the second FSC Global Strategy Dialogues to be held on 22, 23 & 24 September 2020.

We continuously act to strengthen forest stewardship and welcome constructive criticism to improve our system where necessary.
FSC-PRO-01-001 The Development and Revision of FSC® Requirements provides the process steps for how to develop, review, revise, and withdraw international FSC requirements. Depending on when the unacceptable activity occurs/occurred, FSC will determine which policy version is used as the point of reference. If the unacceptable activity occurred prior to 2023, version 2-0 of the policy will be applied, whereas if the unacceptable activity occurs in 2023 or beyond, version 3-0 of the Policy for Association will be applied. To access Policy for Association, version 2-0, click here . The Policy for Association is an expression of the values shared by individuals and organizations associated with FSC. It defines six unacceptable activities that associated individuals and organizations and their corporate group commit to avoid in both certified and non-certified operations. The Policy for Association serves as a risk management tool for FSC, protecting the credibility and reputation of the FSC brand and organizations associated with it.
This guide is intended for organizations that wish to use the FSC trademarks for the promotion of FSC-certified labelled products or services and it replaces the FSC-STD-50-002 'Requirements for promotional use of the FSC trademarks by non-certificate holders' that was withdrawn on 31st May 2020.
The objective of this standard is to provide the requirements for FSC-accredited certification bodies to assess conformity of The Organization against applicable requirements of the FSC normative
framework with regards to forest management certification, as well as reporting and decision making.

The objective of this document is to specify the requirements for FSC-accredited certification bodies for developing Interim National Standard (INS) or Interim Regional Standard (IRS), depending on the geographic scope of the standard, for the certification of responsible forest management and the responsible management of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) at the Management Unit (MU) level. These standards shall be based on the International Generic Indicators (IGI) and shall address the regional, national or sub-national conditions in which they are to be used and shall consider input from local stakeholders. The FSC Board of Directors at FSC International, acting through the Policy Steering Group (PSG) shall approve Interim National Standards (INS) before they can be used for FSC certification purposes. In March 2020 the revised procedure was published to reflect the FSC Board of Directors’ decision during their 82nd meeting to delegate the approval of INS to the Policy Steering Group.
