FSC has opened the call for applications to join a working group to revise chain of custody standards based on results from the conceptual consultation. Apply from 11 December to 31 January 2025.
The first ever FSC general assembly took place in 1996 in Mexico and has been held every three years since then, in different parts of the world. The 9th general assembly was postponed from its original date in 2020 and is now taking place in two parts. The first part took place in October 2021 as the first ever virtual general assembly event and the second part will take place in October 2022 as the first hybrid general assembly event in FSC’s history.
The Amazon rainforest is one of the world’s most vital ecosystems. As a massive carbon sink, it provides vital benefits for biodiversity, water, and global climate regulation. Yet deforestation is increasing. Between 2019 and 2022, Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research recorded forest loss of nearly 10,000 square kilometres per year. Identifying strategies to halt deforestation is crucial.
FSC will organize webinars between 15 and 18 May to discuss the decisions taken at the latest Board Meeting 77 (BM77). The webinars were initially planned from 26 April, but were rescheduled to give more time to members to prepare and send their questions beforehand.
On July 11th, a webinar for members shared information and answered questions about the implementation of Motion 23 and the pilots. Over 200 members registered and approximately 130 members and stakeholders attended the webinar, showing the interest of members in issues related to IFLs and Motion 23.
In August, the FSC International Board of Directors approved the report submitting the generic criteria and indicators, giving the green light to the development of auditable requirements for certificate holders.
Last October, the global strategy development processes resulted in your vision for FSC being agreed in the FSC Global Strategic Plan 2015-2020. The strategy is transformative and bold with the aspiration to be the leading catalyst and defining force for improved forest management and market transformation, shifting the global forest trend toward sustainable use, conservation, restoration, and respect for all.
The New Approaches project engaged family foresters and partners in the United States to update on project activities and pilot activities to benefit smallholders and communities.
