The first public consultation for the first draft of the Global Strategic Plan 2021-2026 was carried out from 18 December 2019 to 26 February 2020. The consultation provided insights into the ideas that are shaping the Updated Global Strategic Plan 2021-2026 which will be finalized by the of this year. Based on the results of the first public consultation, the board can now take this process a step further to the next version of this ‘living’ document, which will continue to guide FSC towards helping create a future of Forests For All Forever.
In terms of participation, 151 inputs were collected, 98 of which were from FSC international members. Overall, the first draft of the Global Strategy 2021-2016 was positively received by the stakeholders who participated in the consultation.

The public consultation of the second draft of the Global Strategy 2021-2026 was open for 30 days, from 4 September until 4 October 2020, with the aim to collect stakeholders’ feedback on a series of questions about the second draft. This second consultation was one of the additional engagement mechanisms incorporated by the FSC International Board of Directors in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the postponement of the FSC General Assembly.
In total, 80 participants provided feedback, 59 of whom were FSC International Members. The second draft of the FSC Global Strategy 2021-2026 was in general well received by the participants of the consultation. Most of the answers showed levels of agreement of ≈ 3/4 of all responses, with the remaining quarter consisting of neutrality and disagreements. Most of the views reflected that the FSC Global Strategy 2021-2026 represents a set of consolidated and agreeable aspirations for the years to come.
As you might know, the FSC International Board of Directors has made EUDR one of the top priorities for the whole organization worldwide as they expect this project to have impacts way beyond the European Union.
The webinar was the occasion to provide our members with more background information on this theme. FSC organized 2 identical webinars on 25 October 2023 to discuss FSC and the EUDR.
A dedicated space for Economic chamber members to discuss and reflect on the statutory and policy motions submitted and to prepare for the prioritization survey to determine the top 5 policy motions per chamber.

The implementation of Motion 23/2022 ‘Use landscape-wide approaches adapted to local conditions and strengthen Standard Development Groups (SDGs) to improve the protection of Intact Forest Landscapes’ has reached an important milestone. Thanks to a collaborative work which included researchers, experts, Focus Forest Advisory Group, FSC International and FSC National Offices, landscape considerations for certification within Intact Forest Landscapes (IFLs) can now be tested on the field through pilots. Interested Standard Development Groups in countries with IFLs can follow the Procedure FSC-PRO-60-004 V1-0 EN Draft 1-0 ‘Development of indicators for the protection of Intact Forest Landscapes considering the landscape level’ and its supporting Guidance.

As stipulated by Policy Motion 12 of the 2014 Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) General Assembly (GA), a working group tasked with reviewing FSC conversion rules has met in Bonn, Germany, to explore new possibilities for improving the management, restoration and conservation of forest areas that are currently not certifiable.
EU decision-makers have reached an historic agreement by approving the landmark anti-Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The EUDR will prohibit placing products linked to deforestation and forest degradation on the EU market.
The report on the revision of the FSC Principles and Criteria (Version 5-2) is now available for a 50-day public consultation. FSC is presenting a new piece of research intended to inform the process to create a fair and feasible FSC Remedy Framework. Entitled “A study on the economics of remedy in the context of forest conversion,” this piece of work was completed by an independent consulting agency.
We have come a long way on climate and ecosystem services (CES) over the past two years. We now have a stronger market position, three value propositions, a business model progressing towards implementation, technology roadmap, and not least a strong team in Bonn and in three regions.
