FSC Members propose motions to prioritize issues or ideas that are important for the development of FSC. A motion is a proposal to change or create an FSC Policy or Statute through member discussion, debate and voting. Submitting a motion is one of the most important actions an FSC member can take. Statutory motions are proposals to amend the FSC Statutes or Principles & Criteria while Policy motions are proposals for amendments to FSC policies or operational procedures.
"Motions in Motion" are global membership meetings, providing a dedicated space for cross chamber discussions around all statutory motions and each chamber’s top five policy motions. It is a space for negotiation, merging, refinement, and amendments in relation to secretariat feasibility analyses and members’ feedback.

What is a Motion Pitch Express? A focused space for Policy Motions that were not prioritised for discussion in previous sessions to be heard. The total duration will be 60 minutes.
Each proposer will have 2 minutes to present:

• The proposed solution
• The call to action
This presents a unique opportunity to learn about motions and to provide feedback to the proposers in the chat.

Every year, FSC International organizes its flagship event with accredited certification bodies (CBs) and Assurance Services International (ASI) – the Annual FSC-CB Meeting in Bonn, Germany. It represents a forum for active discussions, calibrations, and engagement opportunities. CBs are independent organizations who are accredited to issue FSC certificates and manage the whole certification process.
A new update has just been published on the implementation of general assembly motions.
FSC International is pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Jessel as its new Managing Director/Chief Engagement Officer (CENGO), effective on 1 September 2025.
In preparation for the FSC General Assembly in 2021, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is preparing knowledge papers, summarizing developments in topics of importance to discussions in FSC’s membership.
The FSC Remedy Framework consultation will now start in mid-March 2022 and stay open for 60 days (until mid-May), instead of opening in February as originally planned.
FSC is extending the deadline of the public consultation on the first draft of FSC Conversion Remedy Procedure until 30 June 2020.

FSC will introduce worldwide transaction verification for the Mangifera and Dalbergia supply chains from 1 July until 30 August 2020.
The FSC-STD-01-003 SLIMF and Community Forest Eligibility Criteria is open for public consultation from 14 April 2022 to 13 June 2022. This second version of the standard now includes a definition for community forest and increases the flexibility of local adaptation of small or low intensity managed forest (SLIMF) and community forest criteria. The objective of this document is to specify the requirements for FSC-accredited certification bodies for developing Interim National Standard (INS) or Interim Regional Standard (IRS), depending on the geographic scope of the standard, for the certification of responsible forest management and the responsible management of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) at the Management Unit (MU) level. These standards shall be based on the International Generic Indicators (IGI) and shall address the regional, national or sub-national conditions in which they are to be used and shall consider input from local stakeholders. The FSC Board of Directors at FSC International, acting through the Policy Steering Group (PSG) shall approve Interim National Standards (INS) before they can be used for FSC certification purposes. In March 2020 the revised procedure was published to reflect the FSC Board of Directors’ decision during their 82nd meeting to delegate the approval of INS to the Policy Steering Group.
