
Members propose motions to prioritise issues or ideas that are important for the development of FSC. A motion is a proposal to change or create a FSC Policy or Statute through member discussion, debate and voting. Statutory motions are proposals to amend the FSC Statutes or Principles & Criteria. The FSC Board of Directors is mandated by the FSC AC statutes to manage the organization. The board of directors is the highest decision-making body in the organization after the FSC General Assembly (which is the supreme authority of the organization), being elected by the FSC membership to guide and provide oversight to the organization.

The importance of forest stewardship is more apparent than ever as we face global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequities. The FSC Global Strategy 2021-2026 focuses on growing our reach by demonstrating the value and benefits of forest stewardship in combatting these challenges and achieving our 2050 vision of resilient forests sustaining life on earth.

The interim national standard of Belize will take effect on 26 August 2020.
The interim national standard for eSwatini will become effective on 14 July 2020.
The national forest stewardship standard for Indonesia will be effective by 1 December 2020.
FSC is seeking candidates for the role of ‘FSC Social Chamber Organizer’ to organize the FSC International Social Chamber at the global level before and during the GA 2021 to enable strategic dialogue and develop a social agenda that can strengthen the chamber and be a basis for attracting new members.

International fashion brand H&M recently committed to source man-made cellulosic fibres used in their products from sustainable sources – particularly from non-ancient and endangered forests and preferencing FSC-certified forests – by the end of 2025. Through this pledge, the company sought to address forest depletion and deforestation. Fibres would also be sourced from recycled textiles and agricultural residues.
The new version of the national standard will become effective on 22 March 2021.
All stakeholders are invited to comment on the first draft of the FSC Core Labour Requirements in the chain of custody certification and chain of custody evaluations standards. The consultation opens on 30 January 2020, and the deadline for commenting is 30 March 2020.
